Early Childhood Educator, 35 hours per week. Full time. This is an onsite position.   This position will fall under the collective agreement between the Community Social Services Bargaining Association of Unions (CSSBA) and Community Social Services Employers’ Association (CSSEA).  The position will fall under the conditions of employment as a member of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU).

Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), SÉ™lílw̓ətaÊ”/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xÊ·mÉ™θkwÉ™yə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.

 

Grid Level: 10, $25.95 + applicable wage enhancement (Please note that at this time, this position is only eligible for $4/hr for Wage Enhancement).   

 

Job Summary 

The Early Childhood Educator supports Kiwassa’s vision to grow a welcoming and inclusive community through planning and providing hands-on activities and care for participants in a multicultural, inclusive child care program and will be responsible for: developmentally appropriate activity planning for a group of children up to age 5, direct supervision and evaluation of children and communication with families and caregivers.   

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Quality Programming  

  • Plans and implements activities and experiences for individual and group needs of all children within a consistent, child centered program environment   
  • supports children’s emotional well being (acknowledging, positive, supportive and empathetic) so as to create a secure environment   
  • Facilitates responsive, educational opportunities for young children  
  • Guides and cares for a group of children in accordance with KNH standards  
  • Stays up to date with new approaches and activities, looks for innovative and appropriate activities to engage participants  
  • Attends to children’s physical needs that may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping  
  • Works together with team members to create a quality, enriching learning environment for young children   
  • Refers to or consults with supervisor where necessary  

Standards  

  • Supervises children constantly and ensures their safety at all times  
  • Maintains clean, well organized and appropriate program space.  
  • Upholds safety standards as per licensing and Kiwassa requirements  
  • Reads, understands and follows all provincial and local requirements and standards  
  • Ensures all policies and procedures pertaining to classroom and facility are followed  
  • Administers medication and responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines  

Caregiver Communication and Support  

  • Maintains positive daily communication with parents regarding development  
  • Implements a solution oriented approach to barriers  

Administration  

  • Maintains program and participant records   
  • Provides updates and reporting as required   

Other

  • Other duties, as required.

 

 

Qualifications:

Basic ECE

Education and Experience        

  • Early Childhood Education certification  
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in a childcare setting   
  • First Aid certificate required-Emergency Child Care First Aid or higher  
  • Criminal record check  

Concrete demonstrable skills and other qualifications include:  

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs      
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, support and relate to children and their caregivers        
  • Proven ability to plan and organize appropriate activities  
  • Strong verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills  
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, and task facilitation
  • An innovative and creative mindset and learning orientation, continually looking for opportunities to improve and enhance programs and learning opportunities for children  
  • Collaborative and solution-oriented – good team player (able to lead and follow, as necessary)

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: JJEP Grid Level 10, Step 1, $25.95/hr plus applicable wage enhancement. Please note that is this time, this position is only eligible for $4/hr.
