The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) works as part of a collaborative program team to provide nurturing, responsive care and engaging early learning experiences for infants, toddlers and young children in a group setting, under the guidance of the Principal.

In this role, the ECE develops and implements thoughtful learning plans that align with the centre's curriculum, goals, and overall philosophy, while also meeting all licensing and regulatory requirements.

The ECE supports and cares for children from infancy to age six, including those with diverse needs. Through play-based, inclusive learning experiences, the ECE helps foster each child's intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development in a warm and supportive environment.

The Child Care Programs

The Kimberley Independent School provides licensed part-time or full-time Child Care Programs. The Meadow Room and Forest Room are staffed by qualified and caring Early Childhood Educators and Assistants. Children are welcomed to be who they are, in an environment designed to allow them the most interaction possible. KIS also provides supervised extended care for children from 3:00pm – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications:

Post Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education diploma or provincially recognized equivalent (minimum)
  • Infant Toddler Certification preferred
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an integrated staff team
  • Strong communication skills with children, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development

Required Experience:

Principle Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Work as a key member of an integrated staff team striving for inclusion, excellence and effective conflict resolution
  • Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and wellbeing of children
  • Plan, carry out and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities for children using modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques
  • Develop daily program schedules including indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual and group activities
  • Recognize and respond to the needs of each child using developmentally appropriate teaching and behaviour management techniques
  • Share in planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage creativity and promote social, emotional, cognitive and physical development
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with parents/caregivers
  • Observe and record relevant information on each child's progress
  • Attend to children's physical needs (diapering, toileting, eating, and sleeping)
  • Administer first aid and medication in accordance with KIS policy, procedures and licensing regulations
  • Ensure the program operates in compliance with all child care licensing standards
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain all mandatory training
  • Complete bi-weekly timesheets and attend staff meetings as required
  • Ensure facility cleanliness and follow lock-up procedures at the conclusion of each shift

Salary & Benefits:

Wage: Starting at $21.50/hour + $8.00 BC Government Wage Enhancement top-up = $29.50/hour

Hours: Full time, Monday – Friday, shifts vary between 8:00AM – 3:00PM
