We are seeking a temporary Director of Child & Family Development until December 2026, with the possibility of extension.
The Director of Child & Family Development ensures that Fort Nelson First Nation’s interests are represented in all matters related to early years learning, child development, and family support services. This role provides leadership and oversight to early learning and family support programs, ensuring services are delivered in alignment with the Nation’s cultural, social, and economic values.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director leads early childhood education programs, early years interventions and supports, and family development services. The Director oversees departmental planning and operations, including budgets, staffing, policy development, and program delivery. This role involves planning, organizing, integrating, and evaluating departmental activities and ensuring effective service delivery across programs such as the Infant Development Program, Early Childhood Education and Curriculum (ages 0–5), Early Learning Interventions and Behavioural Supports (ages 0–5), and Head Start Education and Curriculum (ages 0–6).
The Director works closely with educators, support staff, families, and community partners to guide service delivery, address emerging needs, and ensure programs remain responsive to community priorities and strategic goals. Through this work, the Director contributes to strengthening culturally grounded early years services and enhancing overall community well-being.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Other: Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education or a related field.
Additional Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices, and techniques of early years learning and curriculum development.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and local legislation, regulations, and licensing requirements governing child care facilities, with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established policy guidelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of First Nations child and family development practices, including culturally grounded and land-based family activities.

Required Experience:
- Experience in a leadership role related to early years learning and family support services, including management of a licensed child care facility.
- Experience in budget planning, financial management, and reporting.
- Experience leading and supervising a team of early years educators, including performance assessments.
- Experience in early years curriculum development and implementation
Salary & Benefits:
Starting BHR: $64.89
Starting Bi-Weekly Salary: $4542.30

- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, government representatives, and external partners.

- Medical certification demonstrating fitness for work with children
- Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening.
- Satisfactory completion of a vulnerable sector report.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract.
Work Setting
Core business hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The majority of work time is spent in a child care center and office-type environment. There is a requirement to attend evening meetings and provide public presentations. May occasionally travel for work (compensable). Interacts with all levels of the organization, government and public. Time pressures and deadlines may be experienced. This position is overtime exempt, and is not entitled to call back, reporting pay, standby, shift premiums, or any other cash compensation which is dependent on completing a specified number of hours in a normal work week.
