Position Overview

The Children's Therapy & Family Resource Centre is located in Kamloops, BC and is a CARF accredited facility.

The Supported Child Care Assistant (ECE) works within community childcare settings to promote meaningful inclusion for children with diverse developmental needs. This role operates within a shared-responsibility model of care, where all educators contribute to supporting children with exceptionalities as part of an inclusive team environment. This role requires you to have a current, valid ECE certificate. ECEA will not be accepted. 


Under the direction of the Supported Child Development Coordinator, the Child Care Assistant (ECE) implements individualized support strategies developed in collaboration with Supported Child Development Consultants and external professionals (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist).


The Child Care Assistant (ECE) works alongside childcare educators to integrate strategies into daily routines and play-based learning experiences. The role is not intended to function as a primary or sole caregiver for any individual child; rather, it enhances team capacity and supports collective implementation of inclusive practices.


This position requires thoughtful observation, responsive interaction, and the ability to translate developmental goals into practical strategies within a dynamic group care environment. This role offers an opportunity for an ECE to further develop specialized skills in inclusive practice, collaborative consultation, and individualized developmental support within community-based childcare settings.

Scheduling is in accordance with Article 15 of the Health Services & Support - Community Subsector Collective Agreement.

Basic ECE

Additional Qualifications:

Qualifications
• Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification (ECEA will not be accepted)
• Valid First Aid Certificate
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to observe, document, and contribute to developmental planning

• Minimum one (1) year experience supporting children with exceptionalities

Salary & Benefits:

Hourly Wage: $27.91 – $29.60 per hour

Benefits: Full Employer-Paid Benefits Package following completion of probationary period 
 

Additional Information:

Number of positons: We are looking to hire between 4-5 qualified candidates

Hours of Work

  • This position guarantees a minimum of 25 hours per week, scheduled Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Additional hours, up to 35 hours per week, may be available based on program needs; however, hours beyond 25 per week are not guaranteed.

Collective Agreement: This position is covered under the Health Services & Support - Community Subsector CBA
